Every person has within them the power to influence the world. Whether through the action of raising a child, or destroying a country. How does that not make us all God?
\nIt’s a feeling of power to know that every move you make will change the way that things happen in the world. It could be something so small as talking holding a door for someone, or smiling and saying good morning. Some actions are grains, some are piles, but it takes grains of sand to make beaches.
\nWhen I think of things this way, it gives me such a sense of power. I step outside of my door and I’m like “I have an energy I can spread, someone can have a better moment when I come to them. What am I going to do?”
\nIt makes me conscious of when I do something selfish. When I use the words “I’ or “me” or look for an opportunity to talk instead of listening. I look for the opportunity to let someone share, because people want to share. They are waiting for someone that will just listen to them for a while. They pay people by the hour for the opportunity to talk about themselves without feeling guilty. Sit next to them for a few minutes, you’ll see they start talking about themselves pretty quickly. It’s human nature. The more you let them talk, the more they will open up, it’s magical to watch. As they talk they have such a release, you can see them leave and call you a great conversationalist. That’s what makes me feel powerful.
\nThere is a spanish speaking man here on the Ward. He doesn’t come outside. There is no one that speaks spanish that’s always here. But he has come outside once. My goal is to talk to him, and get him outside in the sun. I think some salsa music will help.
