August 8 WorkoutPull-ups have been an obsession of mine for at least the past 10 years. Hanging with guys like Tracy, Psyon, Eddie, Lonny The Street Lawyer, Rukus, and Nelson will make every meeting be a choice between doing push-ups, pull-ups or both. That’s because we are Salsa dancers.  I always kept a pull-up bar available. We kept one at the ClaveKazi studio. I had one at home. I peaked out at 30 pull-ups before I decided to add some weight, hanging plates off a belt around my waist. Then we tried one-arm ones. Anyway, that was then. Fast forward to now.

This pull-up bar sits at the SouthBeach Volleyball Courts, and is an open invitation to anyone that wants to hop up there and show what they can do.  I want to get back to the point that I can knock out 10 on it without a thought.  I didn’t expect that from the first pull-up set in over a year. I also knew that every day I didn’t try to do one was another day that I wasn’t getting closer to 10.  The hard part for me is the feeling that everyone is looking at you, and you want to explain “I used to be able to do more but then I got sick and then…”

But we all have a reason to explain why we can’t do something. Got to let that go and just try until you get it.
